Mexico Missions Trip Prayer Request

Hey everyone!

I would just like to put in a couple prayer requests... I am leaving tomorrow morning, coming back Monday night, and going down to Puerto Penasco, Mexico to build a house for someone in need. I am going with my Dad, my stepmom and younger brother, along with about 32 people from our church and about 10 people coming down from Minnesota whom we are hosting. We will be staying on the OneMission campground outside of the city.

OneMission is an organization run by a man who grew up in Rocky Pointe and his wife. OneMission finds people in the Barrio who are new Christians and helps/guide them along in their faith. They are given a house in exchange for a certain amount of hours doing community service, lots of the men help build the houses with us, paint an orphanage, fix this or that etc. and the women most of the time teach Sunday schools or do most of the cooking at the camp we stay at.

These 'houses' we build are what we would usually consider a shack or outbuilding. They are weather proof. made of 2x4 frames, plywood, tar paper, chicken wire, 2 coats of stucco, a tarred roof all sitting on a slab of cement. They are about the size of a 2 car garage. What these people live in before we give them these houses are usually made of plywood, old crates, cardboard boxes and tarps. So although we couldn't imagine living in one of these, it's a dream come true for them.

We work all day Saturday, Sunday and half of Monday. And I tell you, Monday afternoon is the most rewarding time of the whole trip. We hand over the keys to the family, we dedicate the house, pray and say good bye to our new friends. There are lots of smiles and tears.

This will be my 4th time going, the church I attend with my dad goes every year... And I have been looking forward to this weekend ever since I came back from it last year.

Prayers would be very much appreciated. My biggest request is that no one will get hurt. We have accidents almost every year, never extremely serious, but enough that we would like it not to happen again. Also that we would be able to reach out to not only the families we are building for, but to those around us as well, to show them Jesus through our actions since most of us don't speak a whole lot of Spanish. And last, that the families we build for will continue to keep The Lord in their lives, go to church, and share Him with others after we go home.

This year our church is building 2 houses, for two different families. One family has 4 kids, 21, 20,13 and 12. The other family is a young couple of 21 and 20 with a 6 month old little girl.

So prayers for me, everyone going on this trip, and the people we work for and around would be much appreciated and I thank you very very much!

Have a blessed day,
Lauren Harris

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
